Upon Further Review: Gamecocks live mascot back to old name

KVIA

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina is restoring the old name of its live, crowing mascot just three days after choosing a new one due to a dispute between the old and new owners. The rooster will go back to being “Sir Big Spur” after the school said earlier this week it would go with “The General.” South Carolina’s athletic department said old owners had trademarked “Sir Big Spur.” After the name change, the parties talked again and came to agreement that “The General” would be retired before Saturday’s opening football game with Georgia State.
