UTEP’s largest tradition Minerpalooza back for 32nd year

EL PASO, Texas -- Minerpalooza is back for its 32nd year. Organizers say it's expected to be bigger and better than ever. The event is not just for UTEP students, but for the whole family.

"We expanded our footprint, we redid the layout," said Mallory Payan, UTEP's associate director of student engagement and leadership center. "We expanded 'Pete's Playground', which is our kid area for all of our families and our young Miners. It'll be an expanded area larger ready for everyone to come and hang out with us."

Minerpalooza typically kicks off the new school year. The event is also the largest fundraiser for UTEP clubs and organizations.

"This is a really important tradition for UTEP to have because we love how it brings the El Paso and the university community together. We really love to see all of our UTEP alumni, all the folks in the city of El Paso come out here on the UTEP campus engaged with our university, engaged with our students, and really help us have a fun night here on campus," Payan said.

Minerpalooza will take over the entire Sun Bowl Stadium parking lot on the north end of the stadium as well as Kidd Field.

The event start at 5 p.m. starting with a Battle of the Bands at 6 p.m., followed by the annual pep rally featuring Paydirt Pete, the UTEP Spirit Crew and UTEP Athletics.

Admission is free, but you will need to buy activity tickets for $1 in order play games assorted games and activities. Food and beverages must be purchased with cash or card only.
