Las Cruces man convicted in vicious beating of girlfriend that caused miscarriage
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico --- A Las Cruces jury on Wednesday found Timothy Trejo-Vigil guilty of attempted murder and other charges after 4 1/2 hours of deliberations.
Trejo-Vigil was convicted of brutally beating, punching and biting his then pregnant girlfriend Angel Swanson in May 2018. The sustained attack led to her having a miscarriage.
The trial began Monday and featured two days of dramatic testimony, in which Swanson described Trejo-Vigil as controlling and abusive. She testified during a two-day period that he punched her, bit her and cut her with multiple knives.
The jury began deliberating this morning and took just several hours to reach a guilty verdict on all charges.
Trejo-Vigil displayed no emotion when the verdict was read. Swanson cried and hugged a victims' advocate.
