High school students tour William Beaumont Army Medical Center, learn about career opportunities
FORT BLISS, Texas (KVIA) -- High School students from Las Cruces had the unique opportunity to tour the William Beaumont Army Medical Center this week. On the tour they learned about the U.S. Army's medical professions.
"We just want to bring exposure to the Las Cruces Public School District and show the Army is not only infantry in those combat jobs that are seen in the movies, we want to highlight that we have a health care profession," said Sgt. 1st Class Zachary Smith, who helped lead the tour.
Las Cruces High School HOSA (future health professionals) organizers worked with the Las Cruces Recruitment Company to organize the tour and give high school juniors and seniors insight into possible career pathways.
"It could be swinging me towards medical background in case I do want to take the military route. It's already preparing me," said high school junior Jeorjineh Cardenas.
Not only does inspiring high school students benefits the pupils themselves, it also helps active service members and their families.
"We have full care available to our soldiers. Anything from pharmacy, any kind of laboratory services, labor and delivery for the females and families for the military, as well as emergency room services, radiology and any kind of surgeries that may be needed through either general surgery or specialized orthopedic type surgery," said Smith.
