Life after cancer for survivors
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A person who has had a cancer diagnosis is oftentimes called a "cancer survivor." For those who completed cancer treatment, many say that although they were relieved when it ended, it was hard to transition to a new way of life.
The Hospitals of Providence have launched the cancer navigation program.
It is a one-call convenient number along with a knowledgeable cancer navigator to guide, assist and answer questions related to cancer.
The cancer navigators work to get rid of any obstacle, and help cancer patients through their daily life with things like transportation to their treatments, support groups, and any financial resource information they may need. To contact the Cancer Navigation Program call: 915-577-CURE.
Last year there were 18 million people living with a history of cancer in the U.S. According to the National cancer institute about 25% of cancer survivors struggle with mental health.
Many cancer survivors have a fear of the cancer coming back. Follow-up visits, certain symptoms, and the illness of a loved one can all trigger concern.
