HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A police officer has died and another has been injured in a crash where their cruiser was struck by a car speeding through a red light in Connecticut’s capital city. Authorities say 34-year-old Hartford Officer Robert “Bobby” Garten was killed and Officer Brian Kearney was injured in Wednesday night’s collision. Police Chief Jason Thody says the two officers were responding to an unrelated call when a car smashed into their cruiser while fleeing a traffic stop by other officers. The car’s 18-year-old driver was arrested and detained on $1 million bail. Garten was an eight-year veteran of the department whose father was a detective on the force.
