El Paso and Las Cruces Fire Departments commemorate 9/11
EL PASO, TX (KVIA) -- Today, we are commemorating the thousands of lives lost 22 years ago in the tragic terrorist attacks. Las Cruces and El Paso communities are hosting events this morning to pay tribute.
Starting at 8:30 a.m., Las Cruces Fire Department will begin their ceremony in Fire Station 1, 201 E Picacho Ave. This vigil will start with a bell-ringing ceremony, paying tribute to each significant event of that tragic day.
- 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into North Tower.
- 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into South Tower.
- 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into Pentagon.
- 9:59 a.m., collapse of South Tower.
- 10:03 a.m., United Flight 93 crashes near Shanksville, Pa.
- 10:28 a.m., collapse of North Tower.
At 10 a.m. the El Paso’s Fire Department will begin their ceremony that will be open to the public at Fire Station 18, 7901 San Jose Rd.
Our nation faced the deadliest attack in its history when four planes were hijacked, leading to the tragic events at the World Trade Center Towers in New York City and the Pentagon Pennsylvania.
On that day, 2,977 lives were tragically lost, including 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers.
As a nation, we made a promise this is a day we will never forget.
