RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Brazilian prosecutor in charge of a homicide case involving Danilo Cavalcante says he thought the now-captured fugitive might try to head back to his home country. Cavalcante allegedly shot a man in Brazil in 2017, but he stood to receive a considerably lighter sentence. A court hearing in the Brazil homicide case has been set for Oct. 11, and it is expected to go to a jury, probably next year. Brazil does not deliver life sentences. Even if Cavalcante had been sentenced to the maximum 30 years, the prosecutor said, he might have been able to walk free with after some 12 years given reductions for good behavior.
