Convicted El Paso murderer out on bond while awaiting sentencing

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- An El Paso jury convicted Nicholas Negrete Peters on Friday for an August 2018 murder and an aggravated assault in the same incident.

After the guilty verdict, the court granted Peters a $150,000 bond and records show he was jailed and released Friday. The punishment phase is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in the 243d District Court.

The conviction stems from a family fight between Peters and his brother in August of 2018. As we reported at that time, family friend Infante Pacheco got involved and was shot at that time. Pacheco died.

In Texas murder can mean 5-99 years in state prison and aggravated assault is punishable by 2-20 years in state prison.
