Mother And Children Air-Lifted To Thomason After Auto Collision

EL PASO, TX – A mother and four children are in the hospital after their van slammed into a tanker truck.

The wreck happened in Mexico about eight miles south of the Santa Teresa port of entry.

The family involved in the accident is from Canada and they were all heading home from a vacation in Mexico. Mexican authorities tell ABC-7 the father was driving the van with his wife and four kids inside when they were about to cross into the U.S.

The father tells ABC-7 he was talking to one of his kids in the back seat and looked away for too long. When he turned around, he realized he was going right through a stop sign and right into the path of a tanker truck.

As a result of the accident, some of the children were ejected from the car. All four children and the mother had to be air-lifted to Thomason Hospital with serious injuries. The father was not seriously hurt.

“I looked to see my daughter then I looked back and the trailer was there…it was all I could see…from there, it was all over,” said the father, Bill Webbe, who is still being held by Mexican officials.

The driver of the tanker truck was not injured in the accident and there is still no word on the condition of the family.
