Malnourished Dogs Found In EP Moved To Las Cruces

DONA ANA, N.M. – The pit bulls confiscated from two El Paso homes have been moved to Las Cruces.

The 21 dogs taken from Duryea and Daron Scott are now in the Dona Ana County Humane Society, where they will be put up for adoption. The two brothers agreed to sign over their rights to the dogs. Authorities say they were emaciated and were held with heavy chains.

“People don’t realize it’s out there. We were sent to Chaparral on the welfare of these animals, and we stumbled across something that might be bigger. And our main concern is these animals, they can’t speak for themselves. Dogfighting is very cruel.[One] puppy probably weighs 15 pounds, maybe. To have a ten pound chain around its neck, it’s two feet long. It’s just very cruel,” says Robyn Gojkovich,a Dona Ana Sheriff’s Investigator working on the case.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s investigators tellABC-7 they’ve asked theFBI to look into federal charges, since the brothers allegedly operated across state lines.
