Concerns Of Baby Remains At Future Sun Metro Terminal Site
EL PASO, TX. – An El Paso family lost a newborn child 50 years ago and the passage of time does not ease their concern that the city might build a new transit terminal where they believe their child may be buried.
The land being considered for the terminal is at the corner of Harris and Alameda. For the last 50 years, Inez Perez and her husband, Angel, have carried the pain of losing their one day old baby.
Inez says she delivered a baby at what was once Delgado Green Cross Hospital. Inez tells ABC-7 that she heard the baby cry, but then the doctor took little Jesus away. She goes on to say the doctor told her Jesus had a weak heart and died.
Unable to afford a funeral, the Perez family agreed to let the doctor bury the baby for them, right behind the hospital. The couple’sdaughter Maria is now speaking out on behalf of her parents. With Sun Metro set to build a transit terminal on the property, she hopes developers will take a close look at the land.
Both Inez and Angel also say they arein favor ofthe terminal, they just hope all human remains are collected, if in fact the graveyard exists. City Manager Joyce Wilson has assured the Perez family that the land will be examined before anything is built.
