Motorcycle Crash On EP’s Far Eastside

EL PASO, TX. – A major road in East El Paso is closed down after a motorcycle crash sends one man to the hospital in critical condition. It happened just after 3:30 Wednesdaymorning on Loop 375 and Montwood.

The Special Traffic Investigations Unit (STI)said 42 yr-old Paul Chavez, an off-duty El Paso Police Officer was driving his 2002 Harley Davidson ‘Fatboy’ motorcycle when he lost control on the Zaragosa/Montwood off-ramp of Loop 375. Officer Chavez was not wearing a helmet when he struck the median separating the off-rampfrom the freeway andsustainedlife-threatening injuries.

The southbound lanes between Pebble Hills and Montwood Drive were completely closed, thoughtraffic was able to use the shoulder to one side of the accident to proceed. The Zaragosa/Montwood Drive exit was completely blocked off as well as the on-ramp at Pebble Hills. There were no delays on the northbound lanes of Loop 375.

Officials with STIsay they do not believe speed was a factor in the accident though they continue theirinvestigation.
