Gas Pipeline Explosions Rock Mexico, Sabotage Suspected

VERACRUZ, MEXICO – Authorities in Mexico suspect sabotage after six explosions destroy several natural gas pipelines.

As a result of the explosions, thousands of residents in Veracruz were evacuated. Flames and smoke were visible from miles away. Petroleos Mexicanos, which maintains the lines, was attacked by a small left-wing guerrilla group in July. Officials now think the group may be responsible for this attack also.

The company reports that four of the explosions produced fires which are now under control. There are no direct injuries, although authorities report two women in their seventies died of heart attacks shortly after the explosions.
