American Wounded In Border Town Of Palomas, Mexico

EL PASO, TX. – An American is shot in the border town of Palomas, Mexicowhichshares the border with Columbus, New Mexico.

The Mexican government is handling the investigation, so information is still scarce. New Mexico state police say the shooting happened around4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim is only being identified as an American man from Oklahoma.

State police tell us he was airlifted to R.E. Thomason hospital where he is being treated for his wounds. The extent of his injuries is still unknown.

According to officials, conditions in Palomas have grown more turbulent. In May, five people were killed as a result of what officials called an on-going drug turf war.

No one was able to verify if this latest shooting is drug-related.
