UPDATE: Problem Solved At The Sun Bowl?
EL PASO, TX. – TheUTEP football team is back home in the Sun Bowl this weekend after losing at New Mexico State last weekend. The big question is: will the bathrooms be fixed?
ABC-7reported two weeks ago thatthe bathrooms in the stadium malfunctioned during the season opener, creating a near health hazard for the 43,000 fans on hand. So ABC-7went to the stadium Tuesday seeking an update on the situation, four days before the Miners square off against Texas Southern in the Sun Bowl.
On site were trucks filled with toilet parts and the water shut off to many of the bathrooms. But a phone call to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, Greg McNicol, revealed that the problem has been fixed though he refused to tell us whatcaused theproblem in the first place.UTEP officials were quick to blame El Paso Water Utilities for their problem, although both sides have since vowed to work together to resolve the issue.
SinceUTEP officials would not shed any light on the toilet issue, El Paso Water Utilities officials Water System Division Manager John Balliew explained the problem to us “it was a hole in a four-inch pipe and it’s somme in cast iron pipes you get holes from corrosion or mechanical stress … Those sort of things,” Balliew said. That pipe was within the stadium, which means it was UTEP’s responsibility, notEPWU’s.
