Concerns Over Constant Graffiti At Northeast Building Site
EL PASO, TX. – Graffiti can be unsightly and difficult to get rid of, but what if every timeit waspainted over, the spray paint was back days later?
That’s whatmany are saying is happeningwith one Northeast businessand they say they’ve had enough of it.ABC-7 wasat the Jogger’s Joint business at 6231 Dyer anddocumented how the walls were covered in spray painted graffiti. The people who work on the building here say it’s not the first time.
They claim, over the course of the past year and a half, the store has been tagged at least twice a week! The owners say they’ve painted over the ugly designs a number of times and they estimate it costs them $600every time they have to repaint. Unfortunately, the graffiti is back just days later.
They say they’ve contacted the city about the problem several times and people with the city say they will look into it. That’s not enough say some: “It’s getting to the point where you’re afraid to finish [constructing] the building and not know what tomorrow’s going to bring. We do a lot of work with the military here and when they come, it should be clean, it should be decent for them to come. I want [the city] to come and clean itup,” said the property owner.
ABC-7 spoke with El Paso Police early Thursday morning to see what could be done about this kind of problem and they say they have a specific hotline setup just for graffiti. It’s called the El Paso Police graffiti hotline and the number for residents to call is 621-6789, the police will come out, take a report and help out with the graffiti problem.
