Las Cruces To Don Pink Ribbons In Support Of Breast Cancer Research
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Las Cruces Mayor William “Bill” Mattiace has declared this Saturday, September 29th as Pink City Day in Las Cruces.
New Mexico State University has also declared the day as “Aggies are Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day” in support of breast cancer awareness. As part of the initiative for awareness, Las Cruces City employees have also been asked to show their support by wearing pink or pink ribbons to work on Friday. Firefighters with the Las Cruces Fire Department will also be wearing pink shirts that say “Las Cruces Firefighters are Tough Enough to Wear Pink.” They are selling these shirts at Fire Station 1, 201 E. Picacho, for $10 each to the general public.
June Mumme, wife of NMSU head football coach Hal Mumme; Magellia Boston, wife of NMSU Athletic Director McKinley Boston; Pat Sisbarro, Vice President of Sisbarro car dealership; and Laura Conniff, chair of NMSU Board of Regents are the co-chairs of the initiative. All are also breast cancer survivors.
There will be an information fair tonight at 5:30pm at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum , 4100 Dripping Springs Road , about breast cancer. The fair will provide information about how to detect breast cancer, research and other useful things for women and their families to know. There will also be several keynote speakers, including doctors talking about breast cancer.
The Aggies will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:00pm Saturday. Fans have been encouraged to wear pink gear along with the NMSU football players who will be wearing pink socks.
