Pay Raises Awarded For 3 Justices Of The Peace

EL PASO, TX — El Paso County Commissioners Court approved salary increases on Monday for three justices of the peace.

Rosalio Munoz, who serves as the JP for Precinct 4, had filed a request for a $2,000 increase, and will now earn $60,000 per year.

Two others — Precinct 3 JP Guadalupe Aponte, and Precinct 5 JP Monica Teran will now earn $67,000.

Commissionerssaid they can’t question pay increase requests. “The citizens decide whether or not to give them a pay raise and we cannot veto that. They’re the final decision-making authority,” Commissioner Veronica Escobar said.

None of the JPs who were granted a pay raise appeared before the panel today. ABC 7 tried to contact Aponte and Teran, but only received voicemail.
