Onate High School Staffers Resign From Coaching

LAS CRUCES, NM — The six football coaches from Onate High School who were put on paid administrative leave last week have resigned their coaching positions, officials with Las Cruces Public Schools said Monday.

District officials said the resignations follow aninvestigation into alleged violations of school district policies, which include a code of ethics that all staff must adhere to.

No students were implicated, officials said.

Five ofthe sixstaffers will continue with their classroom duties. The other former coach was not under contract with the district and will not be retained for another assignment, officials said.

Those whoremain with the district will not be able to coach any sport at Onate for one year or football within the district for three years, said Stan Rounds, superintendent for LCPS.

“I’m saddened by all of this,” Rounds said. “People are human but with my deliberation with each of the coaches each morning, they have reached an understanding of our expectations.”
