Ethics Board Says Briones Broke Rules

EL PASO, TX – The county ethics board reaches a decision in the case of former County Judge Dolores Briones.

The board found today that Briones did violate ethics rules by accepting paid trips to sports facilities run by Big League Dreams. The company was bidding with the county to take over management at the sports park. Briones characterized the trips as “fact-finding missions” for the county. Briones also said she reimbursed Big League Dreams for the cost of the trips.

Former County Commissioner Betti Flores was also accused of ethics violationsover the same issue. However, the ethics board dropped the case against Flores after learning she not only reimbursed Big League Dreams but had also placed the item up for public discussion on a commissioners’ court agenda. Briones did not attend today’s hearing.
