Congressman Says He Won’t Run For Senate

ALBUQUERQUE,N.M.(AP) – Democratic Congressman Tom Udall says he won’t run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Pete Domenici.

Udall says the 2008 election to replace Domenici will be tough, and he thinks he could win. But Udall says he’s gaining seniority and leadership in the House, and believes he’s in the right place to serve New Mexico and the nation.

Domenici said Thursday he’s retiring at the end of his sixth term — in January 2009 — because of a degenerative brain disease.
