Governor Abbott appoints El Paso lawyer to Eighth Court of Appeals
AUSTIN, Texas (KVIA) -- Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his appointment of El Pasoan Jeff Alley to the Eighth Court of Appeals. He will fill the Chief Justice position through the end of the current term, which will expire at the end of 2024, or until a successor can be elected.
Alley has experience in this role, previously serving on the Eighth Court of Appeals from October 2019 to December 2022. During that time we served as Chief Justice from October 2019 to December 2020.
Alley also served as staff attorney to former Eighth Court of Appeals Chief Justice Ann McClure. He also has 30 years of experience in private practice. He currently works at James F. Scherr PC.
Alley previously served as a board member of the El Paso Bar Association, member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and American Board of Trial Advocates, and former president of the Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council.
Alley is a Texas Tech grad, receiving his law degree from the university's law school.
