Health Concerns At Onate High School

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Las Cruces Public School officials tellABC-7 one student at Onate High School had a staph infection, but the student’s presence on campus has not posed a health threat.

The district brought in extra janitors to clean the campus, and district officialson Thursday said they wanted to assureeveryonethat Onate High School is clean and safe.

In a news conference on Thursday, Stan Rounds, the school district superintendent, said he was not able to answer how or where the student became infected, or whether it happened on school grounds or in the Las Cruces community.

Rounds also said it’s not yet known if the student was infected with a more virulent and dangerous strain of staph.
