Victim Of Assault Commits Suicide, Family Blames Attack

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The victim of a brutal rape commits suicide and now her family tells ABC-7 that her death was due to the rape.

The victim’s mother says her daughter killed herself after two years of trying to deal with the brutal attack. According to the criminal complaint – 24-year-old Joshua Ray Garcia impersonated a police officer and pulled the victim over in march of 2005.

He and another man raped her and beat her beyond recognition. The victims mother says her daughter went through extreme pain. “She was just so full of life and after what happened to her, she was scared of the world,” said the victim’s mother.

Although she committed suicide, her mother blames the alleged attacker for killing her daughter’s hopes, dreams and, ultimately, her. She claims her daughter never wanted to kill herself only to forget the pain.

District Attorney Susana Martinez says in the course of her investigation she could see the torment the victim had gone through. “She was extremely distraught by the rape and in the end that really affected her so much she could not stand the pain.”
