BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s ruling populists are insisting that weekend snap elections were free and fair, but international observers have noted multiple irregularities. Early results show victory for President Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party in the parliamentary and local elections. But its main opponents, the Serbia Against Violence alliance, assert they were robbed of a victory in the capital. Opposition supporters rallied on Tuesday for the second day to protest alleged fraud at the ballot for municipal authorities in Belgrade. The Balkan nation is a candidate for European Union membership. Russia and China have praised the vote.
