Police Chief Richard Wiles Announces Retirement

By Fran Tucker

EL PASO — El Paso Police Chief Richard Wiles will step down by the end of December.

Wiles turned in his resignation letter to City Manager Joyce Wilson Thursday. Although it has been widely rumored that Wiles intends to run for El Paso County Sheriff, he cannot officially make such an announcement until he is no longer employed by the city.

In his resignation letter, Wiles states, “Please accept this correspondence as my official notification of my intent to retire effective December 27, 2007.”
