Gandara Seeks County Seat Held By Teran

EL PASO — The race for thePrecinct3seat on El Paso County Commissioners Court is getting more crowded.

Willie Gandara, Jr. announced he’ll seek the seat being held by Miguel Teran. Teran announced last week that he will not try for another term.

Last year, Gandara lost in the primary election in a bid to replace incumbent State Rep. Chente Quintanilla in the District 75 race.

In a statement on his intent to run for county government, Gandara writes:

Today I officially announce my candidacy for El Paso County Commissioner District 3. I am running because I’m a native son and product of this district. My calling to serve you strives from the passion, love, and dedication to make this community better. For me public service is a calling that came when I was only a boy to make my community an economically prosperous place.I’m no stranger to hard work! I am proud to come from a family with humble beginnings. Humble beginnings that lead me to work hard and appreciate the every opportunity God gave me. I thank my parents for showing me and my siblings to always give to our community and strive to make our community a better place. My plan includes issues to develop a Business Prosperity Plan that will increase small business opportunity and employment; ensure our nutrition centers are well funded, parks are built in our community, smart green growth initiatives are implemented, healthcare is available to our community, and proper infrastructure is in place.Once again, it’s my calling to serve not to take from the taxpayer. When I say to give back to the community I mean what I say! County Commissioners need to take better of their constituents; foremost, the old and the young. I begin by telling you my first priority is to ensure the majority of my commissioner salary will be donated back to the constituents in my district. I plan to donate my salary to the elderly and for academic scholarships to our youth. Our county district needs representation that will always place its constituents first and that is why my campaign is built by grassroots effort. Because I believe money doesn’t win campaigns, people do!Thank you for being here and thank you for support!
