Dona Ana County Legislator Drops Out Of 2nd District Race

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – State Representative Joseph Cervantes says he’s dropped out of the race for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District seat.

The 46-year-old Las Cruces Democrat said today the race and the job would take too much time away from his family. He had announced his candidacy the first week of November.

Cervantes says he won’t rule out a future run for Congress. The 2nd District seat is being vacated by Republican Steve Pearce.

He’s running for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Pete Domenici.
