EPPD: ’07 Drug Busts Total Over $40 Million

EL PASO, Tx.- The El Paso Police Department releasestotals on just how big2007 was for drug busts in theSun City.

According to EPPD officials, the department’sNarcotics section seized over $40 million of narcotics during 2007.EPPD officials say that totalis based onthe street value of the drugs.

The narcotics section reported seizures of Marijuana in the amount of 41,325.15 pounds with a street value of $33,060,120.00 and Cocaine in the amount of 145.82 pounds with a street value of $10,582,845.70 for a combined street value of $43,642,965.70 of illegal narcotics in 2007.

Officials added that during the month of December, 6,393.70 pounds ofpot was taken of El Paso streets by the Narcotics Section. These seizures had an estimatedstreet value of $5,114,960.00.

EPPD spokesman DarrelPetry tells ABC-7 that “the narcotics section and Stash House Unit depend on tips from the public regarding illegal narcotics activity to be successful in the war on drugs.”

Petry added that citizens can call in their tips and remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-TIPS (8477).
