Bridge Reopened After Deadly Crash
PHARR, Texas (AP) – The international bridge between Pharr, Texas, and Reynosa, Mexico, has reopened.
That’s after a fiery crash shortly after nightfall last night killed four people and injured six others on the Rio Grande span.
Investigators say a van burst into flames when it was hit by two 18-wheelers traveling in opposite directions on the bridge.
Pharr police Lieutenant Lupe Salinas says the driver of the van was killed and both 18-wheelers caught fire, but the truck drivers escaped with minor injuries.
Three men died after their pickup truck plunged from the bridge and landed on a road below. Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Rosa Trevino says the men were Mexican nationals in their mid-30s.
A minivan was also involved in the wreck, but its occupants suffered only minor injuries.
