Prisoners Cause Damage At Lincoln County Jail

CARRIZOZO, N.M. (AP) – Tear gas was used to quell a melee instigated by about one-half dozen prisoners in a pod at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

A Cornell Companies spokesman in San Diego, Charles Seigel, says the disturbance lasted about an hour Sunday night.

He says a small group of prisoners tried to take over a pod that holds 28 inmates, and four to six prisoners were continuously involved in the uprising.

Seigel says jail guards and Lincoln County sheriff’s officers put down the disturbance, and none of them were injured.

He says a few prisoners were treated for minor injuries. Seigel says some plumbing and a surveillance camera were damaged. The jail has five pods that hold a maximum of 32 prisoners each.
