Kirtland, Cannon Getting Planes Under Air Force Roadmap

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.(AP) – An Air Force “road map” released Wednesday could mean additional aircraft for New Mexico’s three military bases.

The document outlines possible new missions for the New Mexico Air National Guard at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.

It offers hints at what aircraft might be based at Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, and repeats plans developed over the past couple of years to put F-22 Raptors at Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo.

The road map is a long-term plan for Air Force capabilities, outlining the next generation of weapons systems and where they might be based.

New Mexico’s two U.S. senators – Democrat Jeff Bingaman and Republican Pete Domenici – say the Air Force plan bodes well for New Mexico.
