Skeletal Remains Found Near Horizon City Identified

By Bob Harp

EL PASO — Officials with the El Paso County Sheriff’s department have identified the skeletal remains found in the desert just outside of East El Paso as those of a woman missing since August 2005.

Sheriff’s investigators said the medical examiner confirmed the remains found near Horizon City on January 17 are those of Alondra Rodriguez, who was 21 at the time of her disappearance. A land surveyor working in the desert area came upon the remains and contacted police.

An autopsy was ordered and the remains were turned over to the medical examiner. Detectives conducted an investigation in the desert area over several days, searching for additional clues and information into the identity of the person discovered.

“The M.E. working with Dr. King made a positive identification of the skeletal remains. They compared some evidence with old medical records,” said Sergeant Jim Belknap, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing and further information will be available on KVIA.com as it is released.
