Texas Gasoline Prices Fall, El Paso Still Lowest In State
HOUSTON (AP) – Retail gasoline prices fell across Texas this week for the third week in a row.
Regular self-serve averaged $2.87 per gallon in the 11 cities surveyed, according to the AAA Texas gas price survey released Friday.
That was 3 cents less than last week but 84 cents more than at the same point of 2007. Nationally, the pump price fell below $3 to $2.99 per gallon, a drop of 2 cents from last week.
“The slowing of the economy and fears of a recession appear to have curtailed motorists demand for gasoline,” said AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau.
“That has resulted in an increase in inventories of crude and a decrease in the price of crude from the highs of nearly a $100 a barrel to the current $90. If oil prices continue falling, retail gas prices are expected to retreat further.”
El Paso had the lowest average price of $2.82 per gallon, down a penny from last week. The Austin-San Marcos area had the highest average gas price in Texas with $2.92 per gallon, 2 cents less than last week.
These are average per-gallon prices of regular, self-serve gasoline in Texas and nationally, as well as the change from last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch released Friday:
Amarillo – $2.878, up 1.3 cents Austin-San Marcos – $2.915, down 2.0 cents Beaumont – $2.897, down 1.2 cents Corpus Christi – $2.871, down 1.8 cents Dallas – $2.838, down 3.9 cents El Paso – $2.818, down 1.1 cents Fort Worth – $2.834, down 3.1 cents Galveston-Texas City – $2.856, down 2.0 cents Houston – $2.865, down 1.9 cents San Antonio – $2.878, down 2.2 cents Texarkana (Texas only) – $2.865, down 3.5 cents State – $2.872, down 2.5 cents Nationally – $2.986, down 2.0 cents
