SWAT Situation Ends With Discovery Of Two Bodies

SOCORRO — A SWAT situation ended Tuesday after investigators found a woman may have been murdered and a man may have committed suicide.

Around 10 p.m. Monday, authorities received word that a woman in her early 20’s had been shot and killed in her home in the 600 block of Holstein.

A short time later, authorities surrounded a home in the area of the intersection of Melendez and El Cid, not far from where the woman was reported dead. Investigators said they believe the man barricaded inside may have been the suspect in the shooting on Holstein.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesdayauthorities fired gas canisters into the home where theman hadbarricaded himself inside. Within an hour, a SWAT team entered and found the man’s body.

It appeared he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The identities of the people involved have not yet been released.
