CHICAGO (AP) – With skyrocketing fuel costs and larger than expected earning losses, the airline industry is bracing for a bumpy vacation season. Experts are predicting jammed planes, delayed flights and higher fares.

Delta’s CEO says the airlines will have to charge passengers at least 15 percent more just to break even with soaring oil prices. And, he also expects reduced schedules to help save money.

One analyst says, “it’s going to be a rough summer,” and warns travelers to be prepared for scheduling chaos.

Another warns that airlines will likely look for more ways to charge passengers for added services like fees for extra luggage or additional legroom.
