MANZANO, N.M. (AP) – The Trigo Fire on the Manzano Mountains is cooling down.

Fire officials now say the 4,910-acre blaze is 83 percent contained.

It has cost more than 5.4 million dollars to fight so far.

Crews spent yesterday concentrating on burnout operations on the southern end of the blaze.

That area is rugged, and bulldozers cannot get in.

Helicopters dropped about 8,000 gallons of water on hot spots within the fire lines and are available again today for additional water drops.

A rehabilitation team will be in the area today to begin assessing damage to natural resources before making a recommendation for restoration work.

The human-caused fire has burned nine weekend or summer homes, nine outbuildings and two recreational vehicles since starting April 15th.
