Fabens Teacher Retires After Nearly 4 Decades

EL PASO, Texas – In 1970, 100,000 people protested the Vietnam war behind the white house, American Motors rolled out the “gremlin” and Simon and Garfunkle released the song “Bridge over Troubled Waters’. It is also the same year Ron Lorio began his teaching career in Fabens.

For 38 years Mr. Lorio has been making history lessons more interesting for thousands of 7th and 8th graders at Fabens Middle School. His wife, who is also a teacher there, is retiring too.

“It’s going to be a change, but what the heck we’ll tap dance in and tap dance out. right?” Lorio said.

“Well Mr. and Mrs. Lorio have always had a great impact on my life. I had Mr. Lorio for my first period class, and he was one of the reasons I wanted to come to school,” one of his students said.

Mr. Lorio’s wife retired after 15 years. The Lorio’s ended their career in style. For their last day of service the staff and students treated them to a limousine ride home.
