Jacksonville Preps For Saturday’s Tomato Fest

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (AP) – A salmonella outbreak that’s been linked to raw tomatoes — isn’t stopping Saturday’s Tomato Fest in Jacksonville.

The origin of the nationwide salmonella outbreak is sought.

But Wanda Guinn, who owns the Guinn Plant Farm, knows her tomatoes.

She says they’ve been grown from seed stage up to plants — and she eats them every day.

The 24th annual Jacksonville Tomato Fest gives folks a chance to pick, paint and even portray the juicy item as something to be prized.

The chairman of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Dale Jamerson, says tomatoes in East Texas are coming off the vine right now.
