25-year-old captured, booked for murder after Las Cruces manhunt
Update: Police have captured and arrested Rea. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center at 3:15 AM Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Jail records show that officers arrested Rea at 230 Three Crosses Avenue in Las Cruces.
Rea is charged with Murder (First Degree), six counts of Failure to Appear, and Battery Against A Household Member.
Update: Police identify the victim as 34-year-old Steven Sanchez, adding that he succumbed to his injuries. They are still looking for 25-year-old Isaiah Joseph Rea. Police say they have an arrest warrant for Rea.
"Rea is charged with one first-degree felony count of murder," police stated in a social media post Tuesday.
Police remind everyone that harboring Rea could lead you to be charged with your own felony.
"Rea is believed to still be armed with a firearm and should be considered dangerous," a police spokesperson added.
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Las Cruces investigators are looking into a shooting at a house on the 1900 block of Princess Jeanne Drive this morning.
The first calls came in about 3:30 a.m. When officers showed up they found a 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Police are not identifying the man and are limiting public details as they continue to investigate.
A portion of Princess Jeanne Drive is still closed for now as police remain at the scene.
"Police have not yet identified or located a suspect," a spokesperson stated Monday. "Anyone with information is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795."
