Animal Control Making Sure Pets Are Cared For In Recent Extreme Heat
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – You might think you feel hot in the triple digit heat we’ve been having, but these conditions are also hard on your pets.
According to Dona Ana County Animal Care and Control a doghouse in 103 degree weather feels like the inside of a trailer with all the doors and windows closed at high noon. That is why employees are staying vigiliant, and helping residents to take care of their furry friends.
ABC-7 rode along with Officer Manny Hernandez on Thursday. He said he often takes care of animals when the owners are not home.
“It’s so hot he’d rather dig a hole, then jump inside the dog house…That’s the dog food, which probably explains why there’s no feces, there’s nothing to discharge… Do you see a water bowl? Something like this need immediate attention,” Rodriguez said.
Shelter with shade, food and water are important to keep your animals healthy.
Officer Hernandez said that many times the owners don’t know any better.
“Everybody loves their pets as part of the family. We as animal control don’t want to break up the family,” he said.
