Customs Officers Deliver Baby At Bridge Of The Americas
EL PASO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers delivered a baby at the Bridge of the Americas early Tuesday morning.
About 3 a.m., a 23-year-old woman arrived at the port of entry, CBP officials said. While waiting to cross the bridge, the woman told CBP officers that she was experiencing child labor.
The officers immediately contacted EMS, but by the time crews arrived, the officers had already delivered a baby boy.
“This is not a first, CBP officers have delivered numerous babies in the past,” said Chief CBP Officer Rick Lopez.
EMS took over treatment when they arrived at the bridge. The mother and infant were transported to an El Paso hospital, officials said.
CBP officials revealed the woman was a legal resident of El Paso.
