A Russian court orders the arrest of opposition leader Navalny’s widow, who lives abroad

A court in Russia has ordered the arrest of the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny . Tuesday’s decision was made at a hearing conducted in absentia as Yulia Navalnaya lives abroad. The order is part of a sweeping Kremlin crackdown on the opposition. Moscow’s Basmanny District Court ruled that she is to be arrested on charges of alleged involvement in an extremist group. Her late husband, who was the main political foe of Russian President Vladimir Putin, died in February in an Arctic prison colony, convicted on charges that he had condemned as politically motivated. Navalnaya has accused Putin of her husband’s death and vowed to continue his opposition activities.
