Keep Abreast: El Paso Breast Cancer Survivor Shares Her Story Through Painting

The Morning Glory flower lasts a single morning; its petals will have wilted by the afternoon.

However, this particular flower inspired an El Paso artist to share her story of hope with other breast cancer survivors.

Hilda Rosenfeld discovered painting with watercolors when she was a little girl, and hashoned her skill over the years.

Every stroke and mixing of colors allows Hilda to find the perfect blend, bringing the flowers to life.

Over the years, she has created dozens of pieces, all of which have a special meaning, but none are as profound as one titled “morning Glory.”

This painting came about after Hilda was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her chemotherapy lasted a year.

Hilda says the painting is symbolic, with pink showing life, and adds the vine represents the future.

She realized she needed to put life back into perspective after a little girl commented how the artist didn’t smile.

These days, Hilda has much to be thankful for, and smiles a lot.
