Former BP Agent’s Wife Happy Her Husband Will Soon Come Home

EL PASO, Texas — It’s pure joy for the family and friends of two former Border Patrol agents.

Even though President Bush only commuted the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, their families are still grateful they will soon come home.

The wives of Ramos and Compean have been standing by their men since the whole ordeal began. On Wednesday, Patty Compean told ABC-7 everything they have gone through has made her family stronger.

ABC-7 caught up with her right after she was interviewed by CNN’s Lou Dobbs on Wednesday evening.

Her husband Jose Compean was serving a 12-year prison sentence. Ignacio Ramos was serving 11 years for shooting and wounding Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, a Mexican immigrant and convicted drug smuggler, and then lying about it.

Aldrete Davila is currently in prison on drug smuggling charges. Compean said she feels empathy for his wife.

Compean said she knows it’s going to be tough since the commuted sentence didn’t clear her husband’s record.

The couple have three children and they want to keep Dad’s coming home a surprise.

Compean said the fight is not over and they now plan to ask President Obama for a pardon that would clear her husband’s record.

Jose Compean is in prison in Ohio, and Ramos is in prison in Phoenix. They will both be released on March 20th.
