UTEP Students Search For Job In A Tough Economy

EL PASO, TX — With the recession in full swing and unemployment rates rising, this is not the best time to look for a job.

But many students about to enter the job market after graduating from college do not feel they have a choice but to meet the challenge head-on.

“I know that it is hard for everybody and I’ll just count myself fortunate if I do get a job or a career,” says Kelcey Calderon.

Calderon was one of several dozen UTEP students walking through the booths at the career fair at the Don Haskins Center.

Both the private and public sectors had representatives at the fair.

Some students tell ABC-7 they have had to take into account the recession when it comes to career and job planning.

“I know that it will just take time to find something that fits me perfectly,”John White said.

“I might have to compromise and get a position that I’m not 100% soldon, just to be employed and get more experience.”

The career fair continues today at the Don Haskins Center from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.

The jobs will be more focused on the engineering and science fields.
