Former Clint ISD Superintendent Dies Of Cancer

CLINT, Texas — Former superintendent of the Clint ISD Ricardo Estrada died Monday of cancer, Clint ISD officials said.

Estrada began his career as an elementary school teacher and coach in 1969. Heworked as a campus and district administrator andserved assuperintendent of Clint ISD in 2005 until his retirement in December 2008.

Estrada was named Region 19 Superintendent of the Year in 2008 and was honored by the Texas Association of School Boards in September 2008, district officials said.

A school named in his honor, Ricardo Estrada Middle School, will open in 2010.

“This is a great loss for Clint ISD and the entire El Paso community. Mr. Estrada was a very special man. He exemplified all of the qualities of not only a great educator, but those of a great person as well,” said James Pendell, Clint ISD Board President, in a news release.

Estrada is survived by his wife and three children.
