Man Allegedly Robs Gas Station Wearing Feathered Mask

EL PASO, Texas — A man allegedly robbed a gas station Tuesday morning while wearing a feathered mask, El Paso police said.

Just after 6 a.m., 49-year-old Roy Wayne Wendt allegedly tried to open the door to a cashier booth at the Murphy USA gas station at 10655 Gateway West in east El Paso.

Wendt allegedly opened the window to the booth and threatened the employee with a box cutter and demanded a carton of cigarettes, police said.

The employee backed up from the suspect, and the suspect allegedly stole a lighter and fled. Police located Wendt lying next to a dumpster in a nearby parking lot.

Officers recovered the stolen property and mask allegedly used in the robbery. No one was injured.

Wendt was charged with aggravated robbery under $50,000 bond. He was also charged for a probation violation, police said.
