‘Extreme Makeover’ Episode Featuring El Paso Family Airs

EL PASO, Texas — Those who mean the most to Maria Ruiz were by her side during her moment in the spotlight on Sunday night.
It was the talk of the town for months but Sunday, El Paso finally made it to the big screen thanks to the big heart of Maria Ruiz.
“I can feel the electricity in the air. just like it was that week, during the build,” said Armando Rubalcava, who was a volunteer.
Volunteers and designers joined the Ruiz family in giving an “extreme” thank you to all the people who made this possible.
“They told me in the previews that there’s a shot of me with the wheelbarrow,” said Tony Cobos. And there he was, making his debut on national television.
“It took me about two or three days to cut all these doves, they’re a symbol of peace. They wanted something in the kitchen, a reminder of the givingness that she’s giving to the community,” said designer Lisa Matta.
And for the Borderland, Maria Ruiz is the gift that keeps on giving.
